EN VIDA HERMANO.....Dedicaran Terminal 3 del Sky Harbor a McCain

Phoenix, Az. - The Phoenix City Council voted to name Sky Harbor's newly renovated Terminal 3 after Sen. John McCain Wednesday night. The vote was seven in favor of the proposal, and none against. Valley residents for and against the measure spoke before the vote. Several residents brought up McCain's military record, one saying, "It isn't what everyone thinks it is." The decision goes to the Heritage Commission, which reviews proposals to name or rename City of Phoenix facilities.

The Commission will meet in December, and return a recommendation to the council. The Phoenix City Council is the Board of Directors for Phoenix's Sky Harbor International Airport. Terminal 3 is in the middle of a $590 million "modernization." Mayor Greg Stanton said that upon completion, Terminal 3 will be the most modern airport terminal in the country.

The "long-outdated" terminal is expected to have a new south concourse, 15 new gates and a remodeled north concourse by 2020. The airport's Terminal 4 is named after longtime Arizona Sen. Barry Goldwater. Councilperson Jim Waring said that a facility's name doesn't honor the person or their political leanings, but rather the bigger ideas they stood for.

“Senator McCain has given so much of himself to our country, to Arizona and to Phoenix. Giving something back to an American hero, a former naval aviator, and a 30-year member of the U.S. Senate is the least we can do,” Stanton said in a release last week.
