TUCSON : Abren en septiembre el AC Marriot Hotel .

The AC Hotel along East Broadway is nearing completion, which some business leaders said is a good sign for Tucson’s growing downtown area. Slated to open in September, the AC Marriott Hotel towers eight stories, packed with over 130 rooms and 6,000 square feet of retail space. In 2016, Tucson attracted six million overnight visitors, according to the Arizona Office of Tourism. Tourists contributed $3.3 billion directly to the local economy in the same year. Kathleen Ericksen, executive director of the Downtown Tucson Partnership, said more hotels the merrier. "We can support another 1,000 rooms so this is definitely something that's needed in the downtown and the type of hotels is very exciting,” Ericksen said.

The Moxy, also a Marriott-branded hotel, is a millennial-style accommodation to be built on top of the Depot Plaza Parking Garage. The Rio Nuevo Board is also looking at a proposed hotel that would be built adjacent to the Tucson Convention Center. "Congestion, parking, traffic flow, of course accessibility, all those are issues with any thriving and growing downtown and it is an issue with Tucson as well that will also be addressed with the new downtown Links project,” Ericksen said.

Startup Tucson Founder and CEO Justin Williams said the extra lodging is just one part of the big picture enhancing the downtown area. "Having hotels open up in downtown follows on having a grocery store open up, having residential housing being built. Focusing on the ability to build businesses that attract talent that can help grow companies, those two pieces of the puzzle are the critical next steps for our region,” Williams said. http://www.kvoa.com/story/36194530/new-ac-hotel-downtown-tucson-wrapping-up-construction
